Everything You Need to Know

How do I get started?

Schedule a 20-minute skills assessment (Optional) to determine what level your child is in each competency.  If you register for classes without an assessment and we feel that your child is not at the appropriate level, we have the right to re-assign he/she to the appropriate level in order to provide proper instruction.  For a player to register for “Advanced Sessions”, they must be assessed or moved up from intermediate sessions.

Once defined, you can register for assigned levels/competencies based upon your schedule.  Sessions will rotate every two weeks on a revolving basis so that they are available on different days/weeks.  Schedules will be posted monthly on the website.

PLEASE NOTE: Walk-ins not accepted. Advanced registration and booking is required.

All classes will take place at Encino Little League on the Colt field.

Is C4 for established catchers or new catchers?

A pre-requisite for all classes is that a player must be able to play catch comfortably at their specific age level.  We reserve the right to remove a player that does not have the minimum abilities to effectively progress in our sessions.  Additionally, all players must bring their own catcher’s equipment (Undamaged approved gear: shin guards, chest protector, helmet, catcher’s glove, and protective cup).  Players will be expected to come to sessions in proper baseball practice attire which includes baseball pants, belts, socks, shirt, cleats/spikes).  C4 will not provide catcher’s gear for players.

PLEASE NOTE:  C4 is not a General Baseball Lessons Academy.  We offer specific training programs for children who have played the game of baseball/softball that choose to play and want to progress at the catcher position.

Little League Baseball Game

What are the catching levels you service?

Beginner – This level is for all players who are either new or have limited experience at the catching position.  Sessions will be heavily focused on the “Basics” ensuring proper baseball mechanics are in place.  Sessions will provide instruction and reps at appropriate age/skill levels.  Players will get comfortable with lower velocity, shorter distance and speed until they progress to the Intermediate level.  Lighter weight/training balls will be used for some drills.

Intermediate – This level is for all players who have been assessed beyond beginner level and show skills that demonstrate ability beyond basic skills.  This level will consist of players that have more experience at the catcher position and are ready to advance the basic skills into more advanced development.  Players should expect an increase in pitch velocity, more distance and higher speed of play.  Baseball situation/education will be emphasized throughout drills and training to introduce players to advanced baseball strategies and on-field communication.  Lighter weight/training balls will be used for some drills.

Advanced – This level is for all players who have been assessed beyond intermediate level and are “experienced” catchers looking to develop advanced skills at the catcher position.  This would include very specific training and emphasis on speed/pop-time/throwing technique (arm strength).  Players will be challenged with advanced baseball situations, on-field communication and strategy throughout the drills and training. Players should expect instruction that includes an additional increase in pitch velocity/movement, more distance, higher speeds and internal clock awareness.  Players will need to be assessed or have been moved up from intermediate sessions before being granted access to register for advanced sessions.
